Why has socialism failed? Well, capitalism's not so bad, it satisfies many wants & needs, nobody in UK starves, people are content, we don't live like we did a century ago when it was a lot bloody worse than it is now!! Change the world? How? You see Labourism's failure with the 1970s Social Contract which halved real wages that's why you got 18 years of Tory Govt - most were better off! You forget that 25 years ago only the richest had mobiles, PCs, videoplayers, Hi-fi, today everybody has! Living standards have gone up with technology! How else do you change the world? Stalinism? Well everybody knew that capitalist West Germany was better off than the Socialist East! Revolutionary left? Well they're largely silly students who few take seriously. Changing the world is easier said than done. You know what others say when you try to politicise them - they want to get on with & enjoy life. They may dislike the rich, but what can they do about it? Trying to change things can not only be a waste of time but can get police hassle, costing you your job, etc. Stop exaggerating! That's a standard trick of the Trot left - the world's going to end if this Bill becomes law and when it doesn't end it's cos the Left saved the world! when the Bill wasn't so bad, eg, like the CJB didn't affect anti-fascists. (Nor is Blair as bad as Callaghan nor his Cabinet, incl. Lefties like Foot & Benn). By exaggerating the only people the Left are fooling are themselves (or naive students?) The world isn't like Russia in 1905 when Lenin thought the proletariat needed patronisation. The proletariat & world today are more sophisticated.
