The SLP saving their deposit would seem to be down to the weight of King Arthur's name, but really for a socialist party (even with an essentially paper candidate and campaign)to just manage to save its 500 quid in this former NUM heartland is an example of how socialism has collapsed. The WSA's dismal showing might have something to do with it's Sixties style 'Stop the War, Man!'campaigning in an area with all the familiar problems of poor investment, housing, unemployment, drugs etc. Really struck a chord with the masses didn't it?
