New World Order: Guilty Until Proven Innocent

In the 1930's during the stalinist middle ages a whole host of
accusations were levelled against Trotsky. Fabricated evidence,
illogical sequencing of events, small lies which grew to become so
monstrous that they didn't fathom belief, yet millions of people
agreed with them. The issue at stake wasn't the extent or the degree
of the lies but what gave rise to them and why they couldn't be
overturned.

From a marxist perspective one has to analyse lying from its class
basis. Who lies and why? What gives rise to lying? Why is there no
generalised opposition to the lie? Why do lies become monstrous in
certain historical periods and not others? What purpose does the big
lie serve?

Over the last month a concerted campaign is occurring by leftists
(primarily based in the G7 nations) to associate 'conspiracies' either
with the mad ramblings of ultra-right wing fanatics or third world
lunatics. Yet conspiracies and provocations have been part of western
policies since the dawn of the capitalist age, but not simply that
era. No one has forgotten the Spanish inquisition, the stalinist
inquisition, or the fascist inquisition. All operated on the principle
of the big lie. Whenever anyone questioned any or all of the
arguments, incoherently at first and in a more refined manner later,
they were condemned as the ramblings of 'extremists' 'provocateurs'
'atheists' 'communists' etc. The big lie serves an agenda which at
first appears hidden but later on becomes revealed. Why did Stalin
place all the mishaps of the world situation and the Russian one in
particular on a single individual, Trotsky? Why did Hitler blame all
the ills of German capitalism on communists?

It is true that initially most people have difficulty in believing
lies could become so gross and out of context that they cease to have
meaning. But this is in direct proportion to the absence of any
political opposition. Societies where power is centralised over a
number of years and the press is run by the state become unhinged.
They can print and say anything and feel there is no point in
justifying what they said as no one will question them anyway.

The events in New York have raised a whole series of questions as to
who perpertrated the attacks. Whether all the attacks occurred in the
manner they say they did and whether those responsible are the alleged
perpetrators called Bin Laden and company. The common man in the Arab
and Islamic world doesn't believe the official story. The common man
in the West depending on the country, its history and its tradition
raises serious doubts. Their political representatives of the
parliamentary parties already have the answer to the riddle, but it is
not being revealed as this will undermine the war effort. The 'left'
answer the riddle by claiming it is of no importance and that one
cannot solve the riddle by creating different theories to explain it.
A sort of JFK conspiracy paranoia. Who cares who shot him and how he
was shot, from which angle and why? Leave the equation unsolved so we
can all sleep easy at night.

Trotsky answered the fascist and stalinist conspiracies of his era by
tracing the material causes of the big lie. The material causes of
todays big lie are none other than the large transnational
corporations who want to take over the planet. At first they tried
through the medium of the IMF, then GATT, then the WTO. At each stage
they were confronted, naively at first and in a more determined
opposition after. The war on 'terrorism' is imperialism last answer in
the tradition of the war against 'communism' by Hitler or the war
against 'counterrevoultionaries' by Stalin of the 1930's. Each era
needs a new script. In Hitlers time it was the burning of the
Reichstag in Stalins it was the Kirov murder. Our era has found it in
the events of September 11th.

Every conspiracy however well organised has always ended in defeat.
There is no reason to believe this one will be any different. Of
course they will manufacture new lies to cover-up the previous ones
and of course new twists and turns will emerge to confuse and
disorientate millions. After all a conspiracy is only as good as its
opponent falling for it. But millions of people the world over dont
believe the official lies or propaganda. The dont believe cave
dwellers are about to overturn the established order or that aliens
are about to take over the earth. But when the ruling classes become
disconnected from the masses and when they have crushed internal
dissent, they become unhinged believing the lies they churn out to be
truths. And in order to make the 'truth' more believable they make it
grossly ridiculous to the point of no return.

The anti-terrorist dragnets are a means of coordinating global
capitalism to respond to future and present conflicts in a manner akin
to its essence. When the local boss wants to sack workers they
fabricate charges or exagerate misdemeanours which in a previous
economic situation where overlooked. We now have the global boss
operating like a tinpot boss of a ramshakle business. WWIII has been
'declared' with no official state enemy and with no obvious targets, a
war with no end, a war of 'infinite justice'. The justice of the few
billionaires against the billions of people. The justice of the
transnationals against all. A war which will not end until imperialism
is overthrown.

The New World Order is entering its final saga.
