O.K. some clarification. I'll try to keep it short and sweet:
It was not a wind-up but provocation - yes. Why am I accused of a wind-up when all I was doing was publicly stating what a lot on the Left secretly think, but will not state openly? Over the last 20 odd years, advocating the use of political violence has been 'taboo' within the Left. Yet, who can honestly say that they didn't smile inside when they heard what happen to America on September 11?
Purely in pragmatic terms, look at the effect - so far: immediate withdrawal of Israeli troops from around Jerico, while Wall St suffers a record drop in points!
Moreover, for the majority of the world's population, compared with the minority, planet Earth is not a nice place to be. Some of that minority got a sudden dose of reality, snapping them out of their complacency and Seinfeld existence.
1,000s of innocent Americans died. Yes, well that just about equates to the number of Iraqi children who die as a result of sanctions...
There will be some who will lament the uselessness of failed terrorist groups like the Baader- Meinhoff Gang. But Sept. 11 has shown that terrorism does work for political ends when it is correctly applied.
But not enough discussion is made on the validity of political violence in 'Shaping the Future'.
