This year's James Larkin Commemoration March & Rally will remember the 20th Anniversary of the 1981 Irish Hunger Strike in which ten republican prisoners died on hunger strike. The hunger strike was called by the prisoners in order gain the following rights:

1. The right to wear their own clothes at all times.
2. No menial work; however, they were willing do work required for maintenance and cleaning of the portions of the prison occupied to them.
3. The right to associate freely at recreation time. Study time; including the right to organise their own education and recreational pursuits in prison.
4. The right to a weekly visit, letter, or parcel.
5. The right to remission of sentences as was provided to all other prisoners.

The legacy of the deaths of these ten young men remains to this day. Freedom loving people around the world have been inspired by the sacrifices of Bobby Sands MP and his comrades during 1981 and this event in Liverpool is part of a series of international events organised to provide a fitting tribute to their sacrifice. Already in May and June of this year thousands of people in Glasgow and Edinburgh have marched on the streets to remember the H-Block Martyrs, and the Irish community in Liverpool together with its friends in the Trade Union and Labour Movement and other community groups and organisations will offer the same.

WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT!
