Yes indeed congratulations to Sinn Fein it has been a tremendous election result result for them, bad result for the Good Friday Agreement as Unionism and the British will revert to kind, so a good result for the IRSP who have predicted since the agreement came into being that it was sectarian, would lead to a polarisation of the two communities and therefore a continuation of conflict and misery for the Irish people. What now the chance of peace for our children? On the issue of the spoilt votes it is worth recording that the amount of spoiled votes doubled in this election. A spoiled vote far from being infantile was and is a principled position as to the effect it had its is not difficult to see that in a number of key council wards it most certainly affected the result. What about a mention of the brilliant performance of former INLA hungerstriker John Nixon threatened by republicans that he would have his legs broke if he dared to stand, john polled well and would have been elected only for Sinn fein tranfers going to the SDLP. It has also been reported that Gary McMicheal UDA/UFF got elected to Lisburn council on the back of Sinn Fein transfers. But however, congratulations are due and should not be sour grapes. Democracy throws up all sorts of conundrums the fact that Adolph Hitler and Maggie Thatcher got elected tells us that. These election results need careful analysis and the consequences planned for.
