Thanks for the reply. As for P-S. below, that hardly counts as the
Provo's
main US supporters backing execution does it? There is a serious discussion
to be had
on why SF tolerates racism among SOME of its US supporters, but point scoring
by
irrelevent sectarians just pisses people off. I lived in NYC for some years
and among
both Irish and Irish American communities racism is pretty much the norm. However
the
same can be said for Italian, Jewish, Latinos etc.
SF supporters in Ireland know this but usually just say 'we only need them for
the
money etc" Actually most Irish Americans don't support them anyway, they
don't even
vote for Clinton! (By the way of the 40 million or so Irish Americans a small
majority are Protestant) The minority who do support the Provos are further
divided by
clued in people and the bar room variety. It did annoy me to see an NYPD cop
on
page 3 of APRN last year calling for the disbandment of the RUC, seeing as his
force
have killed more people in 10 years than the RUC did in 30.
However like the issue of racism in general this is complicated and I don't
think the
IRSP posts on this contribute much to the discussion. (and no I didn't like
to see
Clinton getting welcomed by SF either but as I'm not an activist I'm not going
to
accuse them of sell outs etc etc.)
