It is refreshing to find this website. Keep up the good work RA, pity I never met you 10 years ago.
Looking back a few years to when I was younger, I remember getting interested in politics and going to a few meetings, only to get the piss taken out of me by SWP'ers because I (then) worked for MacDonalds, and I remember feeling that these people really didn't understand why a job, any job, was important for me.
But I persevered, and later went to the poll-tax riot, to be honest I was shit-scared at the time, but stuck it out unlike the SWP'ers that I saw running away from the police to the middle of the crowd.
In the end, I quit left wing politics mainly because of the constant stream of booklets and so on and the sense of superiority that these guys had because they knew all about Lenin and what happened nearly 80 years ago.
I was ready to get involved but felt fed-up by being made to feel ignorant and embarassed about my job (do they really understand working class issues ? - I doubt it ).
So, I got on with my life, and they wonder why the left wing doesn't get the working class support it could have.
